Welcome to third and fourth grade math for the 2018-2019 school year!

Liesl Schnuck
Math Teacher, 3rd & 4th Grades

Inside the Classroom: 3rd Grade

The second quarter of the school year is spent learning multiplication and division. Fact fluency is key, so practice those multiplication and division facts! We will cover fact families, multi-digit multiplication, and long division, so practice, practice, practice!

Yearly Overview : 3rd Grade

We will spend the majority of this year developing problem solving techniques to tackle myriad word problems. Students will master their multiplication and division facts up to 12 and develop mental math strategies to help them solve any problem. Third grade math is not easy, but with hard work and determination, all students will succeed!

Weekly Homework: 3rd Grade

Students should spend 5-10 minutes nightly reviewing their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts up to 12.

Homework will generally be assigned out of the math workbook, but will vary based on the day’s lesson and pacing. Each student is expected to write down their daily homework in their planners.

Inside the Classroom: 4th Grade

The second quarter of fourth grade is devoted to fractions. Students will learn to find equivalent fractions, add and subtract fractions, simply fractions, and more.  It’s always helpful to brush up on your multiplication and division facts, as those skills are vital to finding common denominators! In December, we will cover multiplying and dividing fractions. After that, we turn to geometry, with the measurement of angles and identifying more complex shapes.

Yearly Overview : 4th Grade

In fourth grade math, students will hone problem solving strategies and build upon skills developed in third grade. By fourth grade, all students should have mastered all addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts up to 12. Students will continue strengthening their mental math fortitude which will enable them to tackle any word problem adeptly.

Weekly Homework: 4th Grade

Students should spend 5-10 minutes nightly reviewing their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts up to 12.

Homework will generally be assigned out of the math workbook, but will vary based on the day’s lesson and pacing. Each student is expected to write down their daily homework in their planners.
