Stephanie Oteng“Welcome to another year of mathematics at City Academy! Students can expect to be challenged and at times frustrated as they continue to practice critical thinking and problem solving skills. Connecting math to real life is an overarching goal.”

Inside the Classroom: 5th Grade

JOURNAL WORK

Weekly Homework: 5th Grade

*Students should review their notes daily for 2-3 minutes to keep the concepts fresh in their minds. Focus on the process, not just the answer. Create a picture in your mind of what is taking place in each problem. Ask yourself what is the problem asking you to do with the information.

*Continue to practice multiplication and division facts regularly.

Just like in years past, assignments are provided in class verbally as well as physically written on the homework board. Students are required to record the homework daily in their planners and are given time at the end of class to do so. Daily assignments many times fluctuate as needed for the pace of the day’s class.

When students are absent, it is their responsibility to get the work they missed either through emailing me that day or contacting a reliable friend.
