“My walk through our classrooms each day fills me with joy and hope. On these walks, I am reminded of the urgency and timeliness of City Academy’s mission – the transforming of our students and their families and their communities, which are our communities. This is done by providing them with an exceptional education and the establishment of bold expectations by empowering them to push through the ubiquitous and inevitable barriers in their lives. City Academy is fulfilling this mission in such unique and extraordinary ways.”
Milton Mitchell joined the City Academy family as the school’s principal on July 1, 2016. Milton grew up in Kinloch, MO, but has lived in California for the past fifteen years. He most recently served in administration at the Chadwick School in Palos Verdes, CA, just outside of Los Angeles, where he spearheaded the admission process and summer education program for over 800 students in grades kindergarten through twelfth grade. For more than fifteen years, Mr. Mitchell has been a pillar in leading, organizing, and advocating for both education and diversity. He has held positions in his community that ensure equity, inclusion, and diversity in independent schools.
When he’s not at City Academy, Milton enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He also is an avid outdoor explorer, enjoys hiking, making music on the saxophone and drums, and reading. Milton is also involved in the community through serving at his local church as a Sunday school teacher and Bible study leader.
