“City Academy has made me feel right at home.  All the students and staff are extremely caring, and I enjoy being here. I am inspired by how involved and passionate the faculty and staff are about their work.”

Melanie joined the City Academy family as the kindergarten teacher in 2015. Prior to City Academy, she taught pre-kindergarten at Hodgen Elementary and kindergarten at KIPP Victory Academy.  Her teaching abilities shine through the accolades she has received for teaching such as the Pettus Award for Excellence in Teaching, 2013, and being a regional finalist for the Sue Lehmann Award for Excellence in Teaching, 2013.

Melanie believes in supporting the community and is active in B’Yachad and the National Council of Jewish Women’s Back to School Store. She is an alumna of Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois.

Ms. Gunn also brings Sophie, our therapy dog, to City Academy on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Sophie has been working with Ms. Gunn in early childhood classrooms for the past 4 years. Stop by and say hi!
