As the City Academy community moves online, our faculty and staff are hard at work making sure that students and families are supported through these challenges. Counselor Joan Bates shared these tips for setting a schedule for learning at home that works for each family:

    • It is important to set a schedule, but it must also be flexible
    • Although you may choose certain hours of the day for school work to be completed, allow your children some choice in which subjects they will complete at what time. If your child becomes frustrated with math for example, stop, take a break, try something else, and come back to it later.
    • Breaks are important, especially when the lines are blurred between home and school. For children in EC, a break every 15 minutes or so is appropriate. For older children, every 30-45 minutes.
    • Reach out to your teachers with concerns. They are there to help you.
    • Try to allow your child some quiet time every day.
    • Get some outside time everyday.

Hopefully these steps will help you set a schedule that makes learning at home more manageable for your family. If you need more help or support, our faculty and staff are here to help our families in any way they need.
