faculty fennoy shalawn“It is my desire, as an educator, to help students develop and meet their fullest potential by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. What has impressed me most about City Academy is the intimate learning environment that allows for teachers to work closely with students so that they can meet their personal goals and conquer the greatest challenges. I am also impressed by the collaboration that takes place among my colleagues to raise student achievement. I am inspired by my students to be the best role model they encounter from day to day.”

Shalawn Fennoy served as City Academy’s fourth grade teacher for ten years, then taught second grade for three years. She returned to fourth grade for the 2015-2016 school year and is thrilled to teach sixth grade for the 2016-2017 term. Prior to Shalawn’s teaching career at City Academy, she served as a data entry clerk at Regions Bank for ten years. Shalawn credits her role in banking for teaching her how to effectively interact with people and the importance of flexibility and commitment to your job.

An active advocate for education in St. Louis, Shalawn has participated in numerous community service organizations including Mentor for St. Louis, Project Success and the GEAR UP Program
