Erik is in his fourth year at City Academy. He holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Biological Sciences and Education from SIU-Edwardsville. His teaching career includes outdoor education with the Boy Scouts of America, formal classroom and laboratory science at Rosary High School and St. Ann Catholic, and informal classroom, laboratory, and outdoor science education at the Saint Louis Zoo. In summer 2009, Erik took part in the prestigious Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy in addition to a workshop at the Center for Engineering Education Outreach at Tufts University. He was recognized as an Educator of Distinction by the Independent Schools of St. Louis last year. In 2009-2010, Erik introduced robotic design in the science classroom and after school. As a member of the ISSL Professional Development Committee, he has proposed and coordinated a LEGO Robotics training to be held at City Academy for Independent School Science and Math instructors. As STEAM Coordinator (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math), he will facilitate the collaborative efforts between the faculty and staff in these fields of study. Erik and his wife, Karen have three kids, Sophia, Cecily and Isaac. All three attend City Academy. He enjoys hiking, climbing, chess, writing for theater, performing music, and canoeing.
