Summer at City 2011

Daily Schedule
7:00-7:45 – Before Care/Breakfast
7:45 – 8:00- Assemble for Class
8:00- 11:45 – Academic instruction
11:45 – 1:00- Lunch/ Recreation
1:00- 4:00 – Camps/Fun Activities
4:00 – 5:00 – After Care

Parents may pay $5 a day for care from 5:00pm-5:30pm if needed.

Summer at City operates for seven weeks throughout the summer.

  • The daily program for Weeks 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 & 7 are divided into two blocks:
    • Block I- Academic Enrichment Program, 8:00 a.m. – 11:45 p.m.
    • Block II- Camp Activities, 1:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.
    • Families may choose to register students for either a half day program (8:00 a.m-1:00 p.m.) or a full day program (8:00a.m-4:00p.m)
  • The daily programs for Exploration Week (July 5-8) DOES NOT include academic programming and are full day sessions (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) of activities and field trips.

Registration: All Summer at City camps are one week! You may register for any combination of camps. To register complete and submit the registration form included on the back of this form for each child.

Extended Care: Before Care (7:00 a.m. -7:45 a.m.) and After Care (4:00-5:00 p.m.) are provided and at no additional cost. However, families may be charged a late fee of $20 every 15 minutes for picking their child up after 5:00 p.m.

Tuition: We try to make Summer at City affordable for all families. Therefore, families may choose to attend all sessions or just a few. Also, summer camp tuition may be paid over a 10-12 month period along with the child’s regular tuition ONLY if you are currently enrolled at City Academy.

Lunch/Snack: Breakfast and lunch is provided by City Academy. Students are required, however, to bring a daily nutritional afternoon snacks and drink that do not require heating or refrigeration. Soda, gum, candy, and snacks high in sugar, sodium, and fat are prohibited. We recommend fruits, vegetables, and other healthy items. If brought to school these items will be taken away.

Arrival/Departure: Upon arrival and departure, an authorized adult over the age of 16 must enter the building and sign a form located in the school’s office. There will be no exceptions to this policy. Attendance for this year’s summer program will be mandatory for those registered. Daily attendance records will be kept.

Off- Campus Trips: We take many opportunities throughout the summer to explore the greater St.Louis community. All students participating in Summer at City must have an authorized consent form on file in the main office at City Academy.

Dress Code: Students are NOT required to wear school uniforms. Instead, please make sure that your child comes to camp in appropriate attire that is comfortable and suitable for play. Students are expected to have fun and they may frequently get dirty in the process.

Summer at City 2011: Programs at a Glance

Block I: Academic Enrichment (8:00 a.m.-11:45 p.m.)

Each week, students explore a variety of topics through interesting activities focusing on a particular theme. Curricular focus will be in the areas of math, literature and language arts. City Academy faculty along with a supporting staff instructs morning sessions. Each week, the staff and structure stays the same while the themed activities change. The continuity of staff and structure supports the child who feels more comfortable with a familiar routine from week to week.

Students will also complete their summer homework packets during this time. OASIS tutoring services will be available again this summer free of charge for students registered for the summer session. If selected for these services attendance will be mandatory.

Block II: Mini Camps and More (1:00 p.m. - 4 p.m.)

Each day during Block II students will be grouped by age and anticipated grade level. Students will receive a weekly schedule that will include the programs they will participate in for the week. . All program activities are geared to specific age-appropriate development and interests. Programs will be facilitated by extended day staff and outside vendors.

Exploration Week Adventure Trips (Week 4, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)

If your child enjoys being active, like the outdoors, and embrace a challenge, then Exploration Week will be exciting for them. Our Exploration Week will take place on a variety of terrain. We will spend time at the Zoo, Botanical Gardens, observe nature, visit museums, and hike along trails in state and area parks. During Exploration weeks all students participate in recreational activities on and off campus for the entire day. There is no morning classroom instruction during this time!
