Social Studies

From Junior Kindergarten through Sixth Grade, City Academy students learn the essentials of social studies: culture, geography, government, economics and history.

Beginning with ancient civilizations in second grade, students embark on a journey through the centuries that examines historical events, the developing world, the emergence of an independent United States of America and the roots of representative government and the free-enterprise system.

The sixth-grade social studies agenda views the contemporary world from the Great Depression to the present.

Our social studies program is designed to develop critical thinking skills as students learn to synthesize information, draw conclusions, compare and contrast and identify cause and effect relationships. By sixth-grade, students are expected to have a comprehensive knowledge and a broad perspective of how people and events have shaped their world.
