jaustin@cityacademyschool.orgJohn Austin comes to City Academy after seven years at The Fulton School, where he taught middle and high school history and served as Director of College Counseling. Before moving to St. Louis, he chaired the Department of Communications and Theatre at Illinois College for six years, and has taught and coached at schools in Massachusetts, Colorado, and Pennsylvania. He holds graduate degrees from the University of Illinois and the University of Louisville, and a bachelor’s degree from Duke University. He speaks fluent Swedish, does not own a television, and does not believe there is such a thing as “free” time. When he is not in school, he grows apples, sings in the choir, reads a lot, and drives his son Jack to and from the hockey rink; occasionally, he still laces up his skates to referee games. He lives in Webster Groves with Jack and his wife Ann, who teaches at St. Louis Priory School.
